The wood netsukes are all hand carved. Brown boxwood, and dark iron wood are most commonly used.
How to carve a netsuke?
1) Cut the wood into about 2" wood blocks.
2) Carve to rough shape.
3) Carve to detail shape. This required lots of time and skills.
4) Polish the surface so it is smooth and shiny.
5) Put in onyx eyes, drill holes, signature.
6) Dye color, and leave them dry.
7) Quality check.
